With Thameisans 1’s losing their first game of the season, winter heading in fast and the world in financial meltdown it was left to the unbeaten 2’s team to bring some much needed cheer.

Bringing in evergreen winger and erstwhile Chairman John Dunn  in from self imposed exile to add some wit and cunning to the back line and welcoming back Eddie and Marlon to the pack, T’s started where they left off the previous week as Kobus dived over in the corner with the referees starting whistle still ringing in his ears.  Whilst the crowd were still making there way to the pitch and Grant still changing on the sideline some great follow up work by the T’s loosies chasing  a booming JJ kick forced a penalty deep in Hamptonians territory and a quick tap and go saw T’s makeshift Prop celebrating a fantastic start.  5-0.

If Hamptonians minds were still on the warm up they now knew they were in a game and it proved to be the wake up call they needed as they replied almost immediately with a try of their own.

Thamesians early ascendancy proved to be a false dawn, however, as Hamptonians backs started to fire and T’s found themselves 3 tries down with halftime approaching.

With the T’s  pack beginning to exert some dominance at the breakdown and debutant inside centre Grant punching holes in midfield  T’s tried to force themselves back into the game.  As the 1st half drew to a close a scything break and offload by man of the match Marlon saw our scribe earn himself the dick of the day title as he was tackled over the line when a score looked inevitable.

Some rousing half time words from Inchy were taken too literally by the captain himself as he found himself with 10 minutes in the bin.  With their skipper contemplating the ELV interpretation of the rucking laws on the sideline some smart linking in the forwards and  numerous pick and go’s saw Gavin burrow his way over the line as T’s sparked hopes of  a comeback

It was too little though and Hamptonians dominance outwide, despite some spirited defence, proved too much for Thamesians as they ran in 4 further tries.

With T’s scrambling for some pride in the final minutes a spilled ball with no opposition in front of him by the previously irreproachable Paul earned a share of the dick of the day spoils.  It summed up the match for T’s unfortunately on a day where grit and passion proved not to be enough.  T’s stay top of the table but congratulations go to Hamptonians who proved worthy winners on the day.  See you in the New Year.
