First XV - Herts/Middlesex 1
Spartans - Middlesex Merit 3
Ladies - Women's NC 2 South East (Central)
Space Cowboys - Vets League A
With the Spartans still in the hunt for a playoff spot, the last 3 games were must-win games, including this weeks clash against Old Streetonians. Having lost the first game to last-minute try, revenge was very much on the minds of the players. Game on!
The game kicked off and the Ts players flew off after the ball keen to get a great start to the game. The game started in a cagey affair with both sides afraid to make mistakes and both sides doing their best to hold onto the ball. First to get on the scoreboard were Ts with great effort from Slash. The scrum-half sniping in the side to grab the first points of the game. Quick thinking from the ageless wonder.
Ts extended their lead thanks to a pen from Louis. Morale was high and playing in good spirits, but it wasn't enough to keep OS from scoring a try. 10-7. With HT approaching and Ts mounting pressure on the OS defence, there was time for some great explosive runs by the forwards and well finished by Rory, bursting through the defence and running over the last defender to end the half on a high.
HT. 15-7
It was another slow start by Ts to kick off the 2nd Half. Mistakes and a handful of pens put them on the back foot and defending admirably to keep out OS. The wall gave in early in the 2nd, with OS clawing themselves back to within 3.
15-12 Ts
This was the last warning that the Ts players needed. Too many times this season, we haven't seen a performance out to the end.. but today was a different game. Both sides felt the pressure but only the great thrive under it. Forwards were back to bullying their opposite pack, running over players and great ruck work. The backs had the incentive to kick on and that allowed for some lovely hands to Simo who finished well in the corner
First ever try in rugby... Congrats lad!
20-12 to the Spartans
The wind was blowing favourably into the Ts sails now, and nothing would stop them from this triumph. There was still time for the elusive fullback Dan Till to slip in and out of tackles before rounding his opposite number to finish under the sticks. Great try from the young man.
With that, the game finished with no extra scores..... FT. 27 Spartans: 12 OS
A convincing victory ahead of a weeks break.
MoTM: Dan Till
