We're incredibly excited and proud to announce that Lara Miller, our very own Thamesians ladies Number 8, has won PORTRAIT OF THE YEAR in the Rugby Photography awards held by The Rugby Journal (Read: The Rugby Journal Awards)
Lara took the winning photo after a particularly gruelling and muddy game against Hamstead ladies back in December 2019. The photograph she took of Orla has been described as a perfect depiction of grassroots rugby. The photograph tells the character of Orla without the need for an initial pose. It is simply about grit, playing the game and showing what it is all about.
Lara herself took up Rugby through photographing the game. Lara takes professional photos for Saracens Women’s Team, through watching these strong women play the game it ignited the passion to come down and try the game herself.
You'll be able to see Lara's winning portrait and all other shortlisted and winning photographs in an exhibition at Twickenham Stadium.
