Thamesians Women run out at Allianz Stadium

OLD THAMESIANS Bob Mordell, Graham Birkett and Adrian Alexander have all played at Twickenham, representing England, London Division, Middlesex, Rosslyn Park and Harlequins. But none of them have had the honour of running out on the hallowed turf in Thamesians kit, which is what our Women’s team did on Saturday.

Invited to play in the RFU Injured Players Foundation tournament at the newly named Allianz Stadium, the girls wore the shirt with pride - and did the club proud, as always

For the rest of their lives, they can say that they’ve played at Twickenham, while Emelia Arbouine, Emily Powell (twice) and Courteney Ellis can dine out on scoring tries there. Tabby Young also slotted a perfectly struck conversion.

On a baking hot day, Ts played four 15-a-side games of 20 minutes each, kicking off with a hard-fought 10-5 win over Yeovil.

Westcliff, Midlands Barbarians (the eventual winners), and Ellingham and Ringwood proved too strong, but the proverbial good time was had by all on a historic day for the club.

Thamesians squad: Aminah Olaniyan, Amber Attack, Sarah Brindley, Phoebe Sloley, Becky Blanks, Anna Worthy, Lucy Wilson, Jessica Warrior, Charlotte McGregor, Laura Kilty, Chloe Nash, Lara Miller, Courteney Ellis, Emelia Arbouine (Capt), Tabby Young, Emily Powell (Vice Captain), Sydney Hayden-Fry, Ayesha Shaheen, Kia Hayman, Idil Hassan.
